Mangos have to be the favourite fruit for anyone visiting Mustique.  They are so utterly juicy and delicious when ripe and are used in so many different recipes both savoury and sweet.

Lotty says: "When our children went to nursery and then primary school on Mustique, a usual local snack for all children would be a bag of green mango with salt, but given half a chance the school children would eat a full ripe mango, skin and all, just leaving the flat stone licked dry behind."

Many mango trees are grown on Spring Valley Farm on St. Vincent where they thrive on the volcanic soil and fantastic tropical rainforest atmosphere.  In the mango season, huge sacks full are sent over by boat to Mustique.

Whilst Wild Mango trees also grow all over Mustique and are a beautiful sight with their rich, deep green leaved canopy, they bear only 'horse mangoes' which are not quite as delicious as the grafted varieties you can find in the permaculture garden or in the gardens of the villas.

This lush and exotic print captures the almost "forbidden fruit" essence that a mango tree imbues...
