That morning we had seen white marquees pop up along the shore side at the Cotton House beach, and when we arrived in the evening the beach scene was transformed with live calypso and steel drum music from the bandstand, whilst guests milled around with glasses of rum punch or rosé. Down on the beach firepits had been dug in the sand and were being expertly attended by the stellar Cotton House chefs who were cooking up freshly caught fish, with queues stretching down to the surf. The sea was dappled with multicoloured lights, and each palm tree was illuminated a different colour, punctuating the darkness to create a vibrant carnival-esque scene.
After drinks and dinner at the Cotton House everyone trooped down to Basils Bar where the real party started. Live music serenaded us as we walked down the wooden promenade into Basil's iconic bar to find the checkerboard dancefloor already hidden under the feet of the grooving guests. And it was to remain that way until well into the early hours of the morning, when a DJ replaced the band to keep the younger crowd dancing until dawn.
Mustique certainly knows how to deliver a decent party, and with bare-feet blistered from too much twirling across the dance floor, and slightly tender heads, the guests traipsed home as the first rays of light appeared over the horizon.
And we had just the cure for that with our Pink House Yoga Breakfast kicking off the next morning!
