Mustique's very own Ashes
Last week, in the height of Mustique’s Summer season, the island hosted it’s annual cricket match. The Ashes were in full swing, and Mustiquans didn’t want to miss out on all of the cricketing fun.
Held on the Mustique Island playing field, the game brought together all of the island’s guests and inhabitants. With too many willing players and not enough positions to field there was a big crowd gathered to watch the game and cheer for their favourite team. Luckily they were well stocked up with beer and wine, and entertained by Mustique’s DJ Wings, turning the event into an afternoon-long party.
Cricket is one of the most popular sports in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and the West Indies cricket team is recognised globally. Alongside India, it is one of only two teams to have won the World Cup more than once.
There was some brilliant talent on display at the match, as well as newcomers taking to the field for the very first time. Ending with a tie, the results kept everyone in good spirits, dancing and celebrating on the field before heading down to Basil’s Bar for Sunset Jazz.
The day before the match we caught up with Jack Payne, the organiser of this year’s match, to kit him out with Pink House cricketing whites. Our brand new Mustique embroidered polo shirts had arrived just in time, and our white linen shorts were the perfect relaxed fit to complete his sophisticated sporty look. Having previously worked in the fashion industry before transitioning into the sports industry through his role at Live Global Sports Production, Jack knows a thing or two about staying stylish on the sports field, so we’ll take this as an expert sign of approval!
